Pre-Law

Inlet Grove prepares students interested in careers in the legal profession by developing essential skills needed to achieve success in undergraduate college programs and careers in law, and also provides the competitive foundation for students contemplating the rigorous admissions processes in place at American Bar Association (ABA) approved law schools. The program provides an introduction into various aspects of the law and legal professions in a high–quality learning environment that challenges the students to improve their reading, writing, researching, and speaking skills. Pre-Law students will present speeches in front of the class and are encouraged to enter debate tournaments. Parental support and encouragement are required to grow great debaters!

Attorney V. Lynn Whitfield

Growing up in the Cleveland, Ohio area, Attorney Whitfield was never exposed to attorneys, especially any that looked like her. She entered college with the hopes of being a Psychologist one day. It was while studying at Brandeis University that she developed a love for the study of the criminal mind which led to her ultimate decision to pursue a career as a criminal defense attorney.

A graduate of University of Miami School of Law, she has spent over 40 years using her legal skills and talents to help individuals facing legal dilemmas and mentoring young attorneys. Having served in various roles in the public sector, Assistant State Attorney; Assistant Public Defender; and City Attorney for three different cities in three different counties she has a wealth of experience and wisdom to share. Her legal experience does not end with the public sector. She successfully operated her own law firm for ten years under the names of V. Lynn Whitfield, PA.; Whitfield & Mosely, PA; and then V. Lynn Whitfield, PA. She has worked in medium size law firms and in February 2025 she assumed a new role as the Director of the Pre-Law Program at Inlet Grove Community High School. Attorney Whitfield is well known and respected amongst the Florida legal and nonlegal communities. She has received many local, state and national awards and honors.

No matter what she was doing professionally, Attorney Whitfield has always been concerned about the plight of young Black Attorneys. When asked to explain her “Why”, Attorney Whitfield simply says- “ I believe each of us were placed here on this earth to help each other. The way we deliver that help may differ. But I believe every experience we have and make it through, everything we learn that we can share with someone else that will help them get through like we did; I believe this is not only our right to do, but it is our duty to do it. It is my purpose to share what I’ve learned as a lawyer and person with the younger generation, especially those interested in being lawyers in the future, so they can find joy, peace and prosperity in life.”
